Eggs have always been associated with femininity. They are a direct representation of female creatures, symbolizing their unique qualities. Historically, Easter was a feminine celebration too, originally dedicated to honoring the Sumerian goddess of love and fertility, Ishtar, during the spring equinox. Inspired by this, along with the current surge of female empowerment, I felt compelled to decorate my Easter eggs with pink and symbols of strength. Girl power!
To create these bold chick(en) eggs, I used temporary tattoo paper for the first time, revolutionizing my approach to Easter egg decorating. I first discovered the wonders of printable tattoo paper when I made party favors for New Year’s, and have been hooked ever since. If you’d like to decorate your Easter eggs like mine, continue reading for the free printable.
Materials
- 1 dozen hard-boiled eggs
- Temporary tattoo paper
- Inkjet printer
- Feminista Tattoos template
- Scissors
Step
Start by downloading the temporary tattoo printable design. Load your printer with a sheet of tattoo paper so that the image will print on the glossy side. Print and allow the ink to dry. Apply the adhesive plastic backing to the glossy side of the paper.
Step
Once printed, cut out each tattoo, and try to minimize the amount of white space removed.
To apply a tattoo to an egg, remove the plastic backing from the tattoo. Following the directions on the tattoo paper, apply it with a damp paper towel. Due to the round shape of the egg, begin at one end of the tattoo and work across while applying with the damp towel. This method allows you to smooth out wrinkles as you proceed. After 30 seconds of applying dampness, remove the paper backing.
Didn’t these turn out egg-cellent? One of my personal favorites is the “Une Femme Libre” design, which translates to “A Free Woman” in French. Vive la feminine revolution! Oh, and happy Easter!
